Georgian bass Shavleg Armasi studied singing in his hometown of Tbilisi. During his studies he was engaged as a soloist at the Tbilisi State Opera. Under the auspices of Dr. Claus Hipp, he had the opportunity to study at the Opera Studio of the Graz University of the Arts. A year later, the singer was a member of the ensemble at Oper Graz.
Since the 2006/07 season, he has been a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Hannover, where he sings leading roles in his field. Guest engagements have led the bass to the operas of Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Lisbon, Basel, Hamburg, and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. At the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, he made his debut as Boris in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov and as Hagen in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung.
In the future, Mr. Armani will be performing at Theater Dortmund where he will take over the role of Heinrich der Vogler in Wagner’s Lohengrin. In the 2019/20 season, Mr. Armasi will be performing in Hannover in the new production of Halévy’s La Juive as Cardinal Brogni, in Adams’ Nixon in China as Henry Kissinger, as well as in a revival of Mozart’s Don Giovanni as Leporello.
